Employment last year rose by about 370,000 people among the 286 members of the S&P 500—and Amazon gets much of the credit

While Covid-19 ravaged the broader American economy, the largest U.S. employers added more jobs than they cut.

Overall, global employment rose by about 370,000 people among the 286 members of the S&P 500 that filed annual reports between July 1 and March 31, a Wall Street Journal analysis of securities filings shows. Those gains masked wrenching changes and job losses for workers in many companies and industries. And the net gain in jobs for 2020 wouldn’t have happened without a single company: Amazon . com Inc.more than 400,000

of them in the U.S. Amazon created nearly as many jobs last year as the 136 other companies in the Journal analysis that added workers. “By hiring that many people, we were not only able to deliver essential items for our customers during a critical time, but also provide an opportunity to those who lost their jobs or saw their hours cut because of Covid,” said Beth Galetti, Amazon’s senior vice president for human resources. “Amazon became an ‘employment beacon’ for hundreds of American communities.

Happy Easter. Can you please look into the issues within SBA for Targeted Advance EIDL Grants. Wrongful denials to qualified and struggling small business around the country. Major IRS and computing issues. Denying thousands of small businesses funding. Thank you

Was this a paid commercial? For every job credited many more were lost; as entrepreneurs and small businesses are methodically depleted.

Low paying jobs

WSJ has become the Fox News — worse, the Lou Dobbs — of newspapers.

DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, 👇 the digitization of emerging economies is inevitable.

JeffBezos amazon - It’s not hard to map out rest hubs for your drivers, especially with available real estate across the country; invest in your people, care for them and they care for you. Your Ops team has to pay as much attention to staff and culture as you do technology.

Too bad Amazon and 54 other spy corporations don't pay any taxes. We subsidize Amazon so they can kill unions and not pay a fair wage. But at least bezos is rich af.

Pump up the fear on the WSJ articles all year scaring people into hiding in their basement(much like Bezos did from teenage years to... now... (no pandemic, just no friends)) and pushing them to order online. What a business model! Hurray Amazon, hurray... you did it.

If they treated their employees better it’d be a fun celebration.

And what’s the quality of those jobs? Or are we making modern day slavery an employment standard?

Simply wow ..so big tech comes to the rescue even as old world is shedding jobs.

They don’t pay taxes and they still have their own employees putting feces and urine into containers and bags

Ask anyone who like to work for it!

What's the stat for the small businesses that died out? The self-employed who lost their gig? It's not comforting to know that big businesses who manufacture their shit in China are expanding

Thanks to Amazon and a new employment sector: Pandemic.

thank you very much for your work

Amazon is operating modern day plantations
