A critical component of a DAC stage is the XMOS chip. This piece of silicon processes the audio data received via the USB and S/PDIF digital inputs. The ZEN One Signature has a low-latency, 16-core XMOS microcontroller that delivers enhanced processing power. The in-house digital development team at iFi claims it has programmed the XMOS firmware to optimize sound quality and ensure a perfect partnership with the Burr-Brown DAC.
Bluetooth’s is convenient and offers wireless transmission that’s compatible with a wide range of devices. It’s sometimes sneered at by audio purists but many don’t realize just how good it can sound. This is could be because they’ve only experienced Bluetooth audio at base-level quality via rudimentary SoC implementations. The engineers at iFi say they have gone to great lengths to ensure the Bluetooth technology is state-of-the-art.
While the ‘regular’ ZEN devices have the benefits of balanced circuit design – lower noise, greater sonic purity – at affordable prices, the ZEN One Signature takes things to the next level. The iFi boffins claim that, from input to output, every element of its circuitry is designed for pure performance. Key surface-mounted components have been upgraded to high-end devices, including Panasonic OS-CON and Elna Silmic II capacitors. The design has been refined to ensure short, direct signal paths.
