The cement industry needs a variety of technologies to cut carbon, he said, some so costly that the industry is seeking state funding and incentives. “Decarbonization is hard and it’s also really expensive,” he said. “In short, you’re talking about a significant shift in how we approach these sectors and how these sectors operate. Fundamentally we need to think about technological innovations.”

Krugh said the factory, whicheffective July 1, is working to replace at least half its fossil fuels with climate-friendly alternatives within the next 10 years.
