California Governor Gavin Newsom said he's calling for a special session to address the 'greed of oil companies.'

As Californians face near-record prices at the pump, California Governor Gavin Newsom said he's calling for a special session to address the"greed of oil companies." , the governor said gas prices are too high and that he'd like to enact a direct tax on oil companies.

On Friday, 23 million California residents began getting an"inflation relief" check, which will be rolled out in the following days, as part of Newsom's plan to offer financial assistance to many working families walloped by high gasoline prices.

Do you honestly think they are going to pay the tax. It's going to be us 🤦‍♀️

CharliePatrick Lol, who do you think pays for the tax? (Hint: it’s not the gas companies)

So how is taxing the oil companies going to reduce the price of gas? Splain that.

And yet- 'Exxon alone reported a profit of $17.9 billion – the highest quarterly profit reported by any oil company in history – while Chevron reported $11.6 billion, Shell reported $11.47 billion, and BP reported $8.45 billion. '

Could have used this like… ohhh… about 18 months ago… Tax the oil companies but retailers like Costco etc.

'Too' is an understatement

Newsom feels terrible y'all..... (Currently been sitting on 100 Billion surplus, while promising us $400 since March 8th for gas 'relief'..) UPDATE: I've waited since March however $400- is really $350 instead ($12 a day for a month & also will solve all my problems $7 at pump)

Correction: GAS PRICES ARE TOO DAMN HIGH !

It’s the Dems overall plan!!

ma527681 The simplicity is this will be what is considered a “pass through” where the administration wins on an exorbitant new tax windfall and every penny earned by them, will be passed onto “pay check to pay check” CA families in the form of further extreme increases of fuel prices ☹️

Este pendejo!!….why not eliminate the bs fuel taxes we pay

Nuck Fewsom

He is such a d o u c h e

forced2laugh A windfall profit tax on oil would be a disaster. We need a well-thought-out energy plan. Not a politically driven “right” or “left” plan.

Newsom taxes oil companies more, they'll tax US here in CA.. Stop the gas taxes in CA, Newsom !!!!!!!

Come on Newscum you don't think they'll just pass it on? Just another way for California to gouge its residents.

And compound that with the ridiculously high taxes we pay at the pump, pot calling the kettle black if you ask me

Try reducing this first 🤡

Desantis suspended their gas tax.

This is GavinNewsom’s legacy

I'm waiting for November 8th. Newsome you're out.

GavinNewsom should worry about the homeless crisis and crime problem that we have in California 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Gas tax

It should be illegal for oil refineries to “claim” supply shortages following slowdowns and maintenance-related stoppages at 5 oil refineries that produce our fuel blend! They’re intentionally not doing the maintenance in order to gouge consumers. RECORD-BREAKING PROFITS!

MAYBE All of the oil and gasoline companies shut down for a day and cripple the USA and possibly half the world... Then those politicians can get thrown out by their own folks.

Can somebody tell me why they’d be against this

What about putting a temp hold on some of the recent tax hikes on consumers at the pump Since we have 97 billion in surplus money :)

Newsom, Biden, Pelosi, and company campaign against fossil fuel, create policies that make it impossible to increase production, then act stupefied when gas prices are high.

Newsom all talk. He is at fault too along with Biden.

Ain’t that stating the obvious 🙄

This guy needs to take Econ 101 wtf

San Diego gas prices drop slightly as Newsom calls for special session to tax oil companiesAverage price dips for the second straight day as state officials and refiners spar. Raise taxes to lower prices. With the highest gas taxes in the nation, I kinda feel like California has tried this and it isn’t working out so well. Loool I guess nobody told newsom what happens when you increase costs on a supplier everyone needs … stunning but not surprising
