If your algorithms are smart enough to realize that I was pregnant, or that I’ve given birth, then surely they can be smart enough to realize that my baby died, and advertise to me accordingly — or maybe, just maybe, not at all.

Don't be such a baby about it.

Get adblocker-it works. Otherwise just stop consuming media. My uncle died of cancer and I was heartbroken, but you didn't see me demanding they pull the Lance Armstrong 'beating cancer was the hardest thing I ever had to do ads,' did you?

Don't use the internets? 🤔

They are not smart enough. I'm sorry for your loss, but the algorithms you are referencing are not some super intelligent AI that is closely watching you, no matter much it may seem like that. They are just dumb pattern matches with access to limited information about you.

This is a disgrace and we are working on it. This acceleration in use of internet, smart phones, machine learning, etc. is recent. We do not steal your data, we just look for clues and try to give you the best possible experience. As our models mature, it'll get better. Sorry 😇

Get therapy.
