The province’s tourism industry was just starting to recover from two years of travel and public health restrictions which severely limited operations when inflation hit.

The Chair of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, Brenda O’Reilly, says the local industry is starting to bounce back from two very difficult years and while business is up, it’s still not at 2019 levels. That’s because tourism and hospitality operators are continuing to encounter challenges including restricted air travel, a labour crunch and skyrocketing inflation.

Meanwhile, the tourism minister is set to make a funding announcement this morning for operators. Minister Steve Crocker will provide details starting at 11:00 a.m. at Marble Mountain in Corner Brook.

Brenda O'Reilly. Enough said. This woman makes me sick.

Tourism....😆😆😆🤣🤣If you wanna see the best of this shthole, just google NL. You will see the best of NL from the pics. Nothing to see here in this cesspool.

Bang rocks Brenda. Yellowbelly is a pit. George street is a dirty bird dump. How embarrassing!!

it’s not only yr bottom line that’s affected, it’s happening to all of us not just the tourism industry, how is the gov supposed to keep yr business afloat, there is more and more homeless and food banks closed I think you and the gov. Should get priorities Straight!

Don't forget how the tax payers of St. John's have for the last 3 years subsidized her businesses to the tune of a million bucks at the Downtown Pedestrian Mall. Tax payers foot the bill while a handful of bar & restaurant owners rake it in.

Tourism has become another Newfoundland political sacred cow.

Inflation is making us all broke. That is except the already well-off

Steve Crocker is good at buying votes ..

Oh please. Dear ol' Brenda at it again. This is NOT just an issue here. NO ONE is back to pre-pandemic levels - except big grocers because they know they have us where they want us. The rich want govt to give them $$ cause they not raking it in now. Go to bed out of it Brenda

Oh boo hoo. How many restaurants does she have now? 4? 6? How many millions pumped into the old courthouse in harbor grace? And yeah I'm sure everyone's gonna be delighted to hear they've been eating Russian cod.

She runs the only resturant in the st. Johns airport and closed it at 6pm on a Friday night with many people waiting for flights last time I flew... labour shortage to blame or shitty management and organization for her losses? Bad look if I was a tourist.

Maybe it is time to decrease taxes people need to get a receipt when paying for fuel and look at the taxes on them, it is very eye awakening. Taxes don't impact the climate they make people poorer

Last time I went to Yellowbelly the food was meh and the preset tipping options on the debit machine were 25,20,18 %.

This makes it sound like her industry buys Russian cod, sells it as NL cod as Tourism, and then state that they don't make enough money. If these establishments are receiving Gov't money, should they not be required to buy local cod?

I can get to Mexico cheaper than I can rent an air bnb here for a week lol

Another funding announcement for the tourism industry? The squeaky wheel always gets the grease as the old saying goes. Must be nice.

What’s next, asking for Govt subsidies because Post Pandemic Lottery Gambling Machine revenues are down ! Imagine operating an Irish themed Bar with Guinness Signage everywhere & choosing to not have Guinness on Tap !

There are people you see and you hear and you just cringe. The entire industry is built upon people who all walk, talk and dress the same while more diverse businesses are left fighting, kicking and scratching for every ounce of attention!

Bull. There are bottlenecks limiting how many tourists come, such as ferry bookings and car rentals, it has nothing to do with inflation.

How many times is this woman interviewed for news articles in a year? Try diversifying your reporting!

I thought the 'Come Home Year' was supposed to boost their revenues hmm?

Who can afford to be a tourist?

The least they can do is acknowledge the public’s Foodbank donations subsidize the ‘ospitality h’industry.

Oh great, new taxpayer funding for Brenda O’Reilly. She works hard, does a great job with O’Reilly’s and Yellowbelly, but I don’t think many people are interested in giving her our tax dollars.
