Ghosting the recruiter—or even the new employer—has become somewhat routine for job applicants in a tight labor market

Interesting to view this phenomenon through the lens of reputation: 'ghosting' will affect these employees' reputation going forward, but its also the company's reputation that may play a role in this.

The most important item in this article is that a recruiter broke the law and lost out. That is an object lesson for companies. Make sure your recruiters know the law so they don’t embarrass you — train them

3rd party recruiters I have worked with will ask you what you are looking for in your next role, only to then ignore all your requests so they can push you into a horrible job with a horrible firm. Recruiters are akin to pushy car salesmen, sleazy and dishonest. No sympathy here.

Alls I have to say about this is: if recruiters couldn’t give me the time of day and decency to say my application was denied when I needed a job then they shouldn’t feel too bad about being ghosted when we don’t need them. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Having your time wasted hurts doesn’t it?

The recruiters I have worked with give me 3-4 'potential jobs' that never pan out in the beginning and then disappear. Recently one contacted me after months of ghosting me with a news job and was shocked to find I didn't respond... I even had another tell me not to research jobs

I can't speak for other professions, but in HigherEducation, perhaps it's payback for the fairly standard practice of universities either never responding to applications or, more bizarrely, sending an e-mail literally months/years(!) later to confirm you didn't get the job?

Now that the Stock Market is plunging, what is the measuring rod of the 'economic good' in the Trump era? It can't merely be 'higher corporate profits' because those would exist regardless. What 'good' for the People has resulted from the GOP State Action? 'Uh, Fracking jobs?'

For how many years have would be employers been 'ghosting' job applicants? Payback is a you know what. Suck it up. Job seekers have been doing it for years.

This article reminds me of all the times recruiters contacted me for a position only for them to never call ME back again. I won’t be shedding too many tears for them

It's wonderful seeing recruiters getting a taste of their own medicine after years of treating candidates like crap and only wanting the commission. Perhaps they should learn to not 'ghost' the applicants like they've done for so many years.

I remember living in SF during the Clinton era when friends were making a good living as recruiters. It was b/c there was a ROBUST ECONOMY as a FUNCTION of AVAILABLE JOBS. To write about 'today's plight' for recruiters with no real leads for dead-end jobs is a sad juxtaposition

Would cherish the opportunity to ghost any one of about a dozen recruiters I’ve dealt with over the past 5 years. About two centimeters above tow truck drivers on the scumbag scale.

I ghosted in the middle of an interview when they left the room for a bit. Employers shit on us long enough. Nice to have some power back.

For years, hiring managers have had their pick of applicants, many from overseas, some actual US citizens. They had it too easy, since the US economy has been floundering since 2000. That's 18 years of insults, decline in std of living, and failed investments.

This might prove to be a problem very soon as recruiters are pretty well connected, Google Apps never forgets anything and the debt cycle is going to dump a lot of million people out of job (using that word because the layoffs will come hard and fast).
