Plenty stated in recently filed state notices it plans to cease operations at 590 Ecles Ave. in January and begin group layoffs starting with 18 employees before full closure of its South San Francisco site in March 2023. Plenty was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday morning but I'll update this story if I hear back. Per the layoff notice, Plenty anticipates cutting additional employees beyond the initial round of 18 corresponding to farm operation roles. As of Dec. 1, the company had 416 employees, according to PitchBook.has more than 200,000 square feet of indoor space in South San Francisco but used only a small portion for the produce it sells through outlets such as Good Eggs, with most of the site portioned out for testing and research and development.
