While travelling on holiday with her family, Monique Svenson almost lost thousands of dollars during a single phone call.

abc.net.au/news/phone-scam-shame-tiktok-how-to-help/101826866When you think of a scam victim, Monique Svenson is not the typical person who comes to mind.

"I work full time for myself, I have staff, I have multiple bank accounts, I have a branch manager, I have accountants, I invest in shares. The banking world feels very familiar to me." The text appeared in the same thread as other correspondence from the bank, which lulled Ms Svenson into a false sense of security.

The scammer then told her there was a device in Perth that was accessing her account and the only way to fix this was to re-register her device and deactivate the 'fraudulent' device. There was also an additional message at the bottom of the text that stated, "Do not read this code out to anyone, not even us."

When dealing with a UK financial organisation recently they asked ME to provide them with a passphrase they would repeat to me if they contacted me by phone. In Australia they start by asking you for all your details to prove who you are.'No thanks, send me a letter' I tell them.

Well she fell down is thinking the Bank had spare staff able to go through your private records against the law about privacy access to records.

I appreciate Monique sharing her story to warn others. But this quote: 'I trust me, I know I'm capable, but how many elderly people, people who aren't digital savvy, single mums would be like 'What happened? I don't understand?'' Why assume 'single mums' are not tech savvy?

No wonder they targeted her. How easy was that lol

Rarely do they ring with a crisp Aussie accent

See. Who says blondes are not smart. Do NOT mess with a blonde while on holidays. Bad choice by the scammer.💵
