The developer behind the downtown San Francisco project slated to turn the 13-story Hearst office building at 5 Third St. into an Auberge Resorts Collection luxury hotel is asking the city for a three-year approval extension as a permit expiration deadline approaches.costing more than $100 million, was approved by the Planning Commission in April 2019 with the condition that JMA would secure a building or site permit within three years.
The 2019 process was not without challengers to JMA and property owner Hearst Real Estate, including an appeal citing environmental impact concerns from a group called Friends of the Hearst Building as well as another appeal from the owner of a nearby building at 163 Jessie St.
