Near Miss of the Day 860: Van driver almost takes cyclist out — business owner threatens with defamation case after getting review bombed London cyclist had to slam on his disc brakes to avoid a dangerous crash with the driver of the business van cycling

The cyclist was pedalling down Brighton Road in south London when a driver with a business van hooked left and cut across him with a dangerously high speed, and when the cyclist posted the video leading to the business getting review bombed, its response was more threatening than apologetic…

CycleGaz had to slam down on his disc brakes, which left marks on his tyre. He said: “If I was not hyperaware, on a bike with hydraulic disc brakes, and extremely experienced at using said brakes, this would have resulted in a collision that would have left me with serious injuries.” This post is intended to highlight the poor actions of the Met Police and to flag the dangerous junction.> Near Miss of the Day 859: Driver cuts across cyclist at speed, narrowly misses front wheel

A school bus and myself were almost wiped out by a van driver on his phone. I didn't bother with Police or get a bunch of total strangers who were not involved to lie and post slander. I just phoned his gaffer, who fired him. This seemed fair to me. But I am an adult.

This incident looks even worse from the rear view camera, almost as if the van driver times his turn to deliberately come very close to the cyclist. Very poor form for people to write bad reviews about him though.

Instead of admiring fault and apologizing, business gets defensive and threatens reviewers. I guess that’s one approach

This is exactly why companies should make sure their drivers are 100% aware that their driving reflects on the professionalism of the business. The cyclist is posting the video to show bad driving. Not to defame the business.

Defamation... 🤔

Surely it can't be defamation if the driver did something dangerous? It's just facts, no?

Near miss's of the day, over a dozen cyclists ignore the red lights. Get your own lot to obey the rules first before moaning about others

See what happens the other side of reporting people that should be done in this case as it was appalling driving. The company gets bad press when it’s not their fault.

Cyclist still doing over 16mph at that point, must have been going significantly in excess of the speed limit initially.

Van drivers again proving that they are mostly arse.

So they sacked the driver for the traffic offence but people are going on the company Google page and lying, pretending to be customers, and writing bad reviews. The effect is the company is suffering. Shocking behaviour that gets cyclists like me a bad name.

In fairness, that's quite bad.

I don't always politely make a suggestion, but when I do it comes with a threat from lawyers.

Dangerous driving results in negative feedback shocker. Here’s a radical idea. Don’t drive like a C , don’t get negative feedback. Back for more rocket science after these messages…

Update on the carpet bloke’s Google page

They appear not to know what defamation is. Or that RTA offences are criminal, not civil.
