Community member Carla Carr expressed mixed feelings about what's happening in the Hilltop -- a mural as part of a beautification project amid a steady trend of crime around the neighborhood.Mayor Andrew Ginther is one of several luminaries expected at a block party on Sullivant Avenue on Thursday evening.
"I think is a big investment, and I would hope that the ultimate goal is for safer streets," Carr said. "Art is a very subjective thing, but I think that the crosswalks can sometimes be poorly marked, and I hope that we have fewer speeding vehicles on the streets, fewer pedestrian accidents, fewer car accidents. That's really what would be the most important thing would be about the investment -- more of a safe environment for people on the street.
"I do appreciate public art. I think it's an important investment to make in the community although I'm not 100 percent certain if there's a direct relationship between having murals and pieces of art along the street and safety. That needs to be shown."
