Even in Canada and some US states where marijuana is legal, the illegal market remains a tenacious competitor

One big reason to legalize cannabis is to wrest the market away from criminal enterprises and tax the proceeds. But in Canada and the US states where weed is legal, the illegal market has proven to be a tenacious competitor – and it’s likely to remain so for years.

as a market topic, perhaps, but who assess costs on health? impact on border line psychiatric patients, on families and society? Legalisation only increased consumption and social problems linked to it, must be think it over

No, but at least some of the illegal dealers will loss their strong hold and go back to do things right for once in their life.

Do you know why nobody buys milk on the black market? Because it isn’t made extortionately expensive by taxes.

Try to tell people that they cannot grow tomatoes, peas or cucumbers in their home garden. That is same reason that unregulated pot will always be out there. The government wants to tax pot and turn a profit. The black market charges market rates and no taxes.

Nope, just cuts the price more

I’m going to bet that black market ORGANIC weed will become a thing.

So that's a no then. I say legalize it and let the daft s*ds smoke it, lets though make sure they can't use the NHS when they over dose.

Overnight

It will take time.

Oregonian here: (non user) Just wouldn't be worth the risk and hassle to buy from some dude on the street. There are shops, the prices are advertised openly, you know what exactly you're getting, and importantly, you aren't going to jail or worse.

In WA state it already does. It’s so easy to afford cannabis here that the retailers lobbied to remove the excise tax savings that were granted to medical users because having to eat a 25% tax was destroying their profit margins.

Alcohol is technically not legal its under prohibition law. To this day. In Colorado the recreational weed is more legal then the alcohol sold in stores. Funny really..

It can if its recreational.

Idk... did legal alcohol ever beat moonshine?

Here in Oregon we can grow our own so no need for either actually

If alchohol were only availible from dispensaries and the federal goverment made it hard for even those to operate, we would still have speakeasies. People still make their own liquor, even illegally, but there isn't a real black market for it anymore.

This is the stupidest question ever. Do bootleggers beat the legal alcohol market Does Uncle Joe compete with Budweiser? Where’d you go to school? With trump?

There are already huge billion dollar corporations like Monsanto and Bayer that are positioned to literally take over the growing and distribution, it will be federally legalized once their ducks are in a row so they can checkmate all the current smaller operations swiftly

Not if money grabbers are involved Truth TruthMatters if the govt gets there pennies we all lose DeepState

...So? The base question is a moral one. Do we need to jail people who smoke something that sprouts out of the ground? No.

I also think as people grow up into the legal economy and current dealers move into the market or retire, there will be less black market. People will stick with trusted relationships ...

1 gram joint's start at $2 here. I don't smoke but it seems like a decent price for sleep.

Most people over here in Washington State that I know buy in shops, not dealers now — though they still exist and people use them. Most people (I know) like knowing what they’re buying and selection. I definitely think shops are easier.

Emerging markets need support to establish themselves. Lower taxes and other business incentives by state until they capture the market and trust of consumers. Then raise taxes and use revenue to regulate it properly

For kids?

Can anything beat the black market?

No

Yes its true macro ecconomics based on supply and demand just look at Keynon

Yes. The quality will be much higher
