INDIANAPOLIS — Firefighters battled a large fire at a west Indianapolis business Saturday afternoon. The fire was visible across the city as crews worked to bring it under control. Wayne Township Fire Department Captain Eric Banister said the smoke was visible from as far as Whiteland and that it caused traffic congestion around the site of the fire.
Captain Banister said the fire was intense when crews first arrived and that it was challenging to get water to the fire because of its concentration in the middle of a scrap pile. Wayne Township FD says that operators who work for Zore's Recycling assisted firefighters with removing heavy debris from the scrap pile to help gain access to the seat of the fire. This still from an INDOT traffic camera shows a large plume of smoke on Indy's west side. 13News has a crew heading to the scene to learn more information."There is no immediate cause for alarm," said Captain Banister."None of our meters have gone off with anything of high toxicity.
