Sunday wrapped up Stars and Stripes on Houston Street. It’s the first year for the weeklong celebration of Independence Day.
The weeklong celebration isn’t the first initiative to bring more people downtown. It follows Holidays on Houston Street which was a weekend-long holiday event that happened in December. “It definitely cuts off a lot of the walking distance and the radius of where people are going to go from their location, like if they’re staying at a hotel or just coming downtown from dinner. They won’t walk as much if there’s construction in the way or closing things off,” said Maldonado.
