The business behind the famed strawberry watermelon cake is closing all of its Melbourne stores, joining a growing list of hospitality venues who have shut up shop in the Victorian capital.
The business attributed the closures to a combination of increased costs, staffing shortages and a difficult economic climate.Black Star Pastry's four permanent and two pop-up stores in Sydney will continue to operate. The business first opened in the harbour city in 2008. "Rising costs, a tough economic climate and an industry-wide staffing shortage have forced us to consolidate our team and we will shift our focus to our original home of Sydney," Black Star pastry added.
"We want to thank our loyal regulars, once-in-a-while visitors and all those who have supported us in the wonderful city of Melbourne."
