This is after it failed to gain a majority to govern after the November 2021 local government elections. “We delegated the speaker to institute the legal proceeding on behalf of the council on an urgent basis. Our reason for doing that we don’t agree with the recommendation of the PEC to put our municipality under section 139 C. The Council wrote numerous letters to the MEC seeking intervention but today he did nothing. The MEC failed us. The ANC also itself misled us.”
