The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have confirmed that Alize Van Der Merwe, who was reported missing, has been rescued.
The 39-year-old was kidnapped in Mthatha on Friday while travelling from East London to a resort in Port St John’s. She was rescued along with a 34-year-old woman who was also kidnapped on the 17th of September between Elliott and Barkley East. Provincial Hawks spokesperson Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana says they were released due to the pressure that was exerted by law enforcement agencies in finding them.Meanwhile, two alleged extortionists have been gunned down at Gaduka village outside Mthatha, Eastern Cape.The National Intervention Unit followed a lead and when they were cornered a shootout ensued between them and the police.
