A copied artwork featured in the lounge room of Ricky Gervais's character in the Netflix series After Life results in a payout to Aboriginal artist Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri.

Ricky Gervais's British production company is to pay an Aboriginal artist compensation for featuring an unauthorised copy of a painting in the actor's Netflix series After Life.The copied artwork featured in Ricky Gervais's Netflix series After Life, released in MarchAn authentic reproduction will feature in season two of the show, which will be released next year

Gervais's company, Derek Productions, will now pay an undisclosed amount of compensation to Aboriginal artist Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri for using the copy of a 1987 work titled Tingarri Dreaming. "It's important that his work and the work of all Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists is acknowledged and respected," Mr Sweeney said.

The deal was negotiated by the Australian Copyright Agency, which works on behalf of artists to protect licensing and copyright arrangements.

Good. Copyright law in action, other art thieves should take note

rickygervais is good people. I have no doubt he wasn't aware of the forgery and had no intention to defraud or misrepresent. Even though the article doesn't state it, I'd even be willing to bet he played an active part in setting things right.
