Over roughly two weeks, about 90% of the $349 billion set aside to help businesses stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic has been allocated.

The top Republicans in the Senate and House – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy – said Democrats were holding American workers"hostage" to political demands.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., spoke with Mnuchin on Wednesday and said Democratic staff from the House and Senate were planning to meet with the Treasury Department later in the day. "I can’t guarantee that we can get to an agreement that we can pass by Friday," he told reporters on a conference call Wednesday.
