Sundar Pichai told employees to take nearly 9 minutes of silence to honor black lives lost.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai told employees to take 8 minutes and 46 second of silence at the same time to honor black lives lost.Pichai said he met with Black Google employees Tuesday.

"I realize that nothing about this week feels like business as usual—and it shouldn't," Pichai said in an. "Our Black community is hurting, and many of us are searching for ways to stand up for what we believe, and reach out to people we love to show solidarity." The silence represents the amount of time Minneapolis black man George Floyd was held under the knee of a white police officer before he died. Since that incident was captured on video last week, it went viral and ignited worldwide protests. It also comes after Google's own lacks of diversity and inclusion and reportedlyPichai also said the company will provide $12 million in funding to organizations working to address racial inequities.
