Image: Leah Farrell/RollingNews.ie THE CEO OF the Restaurants Association of Ireland has said that “180,000 jobs will be gone” if the country moves to Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions.

The leaders of the three coalition parties are set to meet with Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan today about the advice, with the ultimate decision on whether to move to the highest level of lockdown to be taken by Cabinet. In a statement, the RAI has described Nphet’s recommendation as “surprising, unexplainable and economically unreasonable”, urging the government not to follow the advice of the health experts.

“That Nphet have recommended to governments to go into Level 5, considering that there are certain counties that are doing extremely well in the fight against Covid. There are counties where the cases are above 100 , we in the Restaurant Association of Ireland have called for and we’re still looking for the international evidence that says that our industry is the cause of the transmission. We haven’t seen that evidence yet,” he said.

Might as well throw away the keys if level 5 goes ahead

They said that in April

If people supported small businesses instead of deep throathing jeff Bezos, the economy would be in a better position to handle this, But better supports are needed for these places right now

Agreed ....LeoVaradkar MichealMartinTD over to you not just over 35000 in the hospitality sector but thousand's more jobs and business especially , are in your hands!!!!

He restaurant's should tell the Gov to go fook themselves.....period.....

WhyAreTheyDoingThis WhyAreTheyDoingThis

of course they would, given their first mandate is economic whereas the Govt should be public health.

Yes reject and dismiss this government

Stupid, they will end the country. take out these ministers, its NPH

Maybe restaurants would have more credibility if so many weren't breaching guidelines..twice in recent times been served by business owner with no mask...tables packed in etc. Pubs also breaking rules around length of stay depending on who it is..ridiculous

Unfortunately while most restaurants and bars did adhere to guidelines the few that didn’t ruin it for everyone “Punish all for the sins of a few “

Take your health advice from Nandos and Pat McKillan Jr or NPHET....This is a tough one...

Nphet should be locked up. The lunatics are running the asylum

Are the restaurants going to give guarantees that people wont catch Covid 19? No I bet they wont . Because they can't. We have to get rid of this once and for all . New Zealand has done it , Australia and Finland are now very low numbers.

NPHET should reject anything the Restaurants Association of Ireland says! 🙄

Wow...suppose you don't need a degree to own or work in a bar or restaurant...hence

They would say that but when hospital capacity can't cope with the increase in cases, comment is irresponsible & selfish. So many restaurants pay their staff poorly while owners drive big cars, live in lavish houses, fund pvt education, they clearly don't care about lives lost.

and they are right complete hoax

Hmm, knowing who to take public health advice from is always such a dilemma. Team of public health experts, or Nandos? Who can tell.

Yeah, that's it, profit over health. Wont have much customers coming back if everyone becomes ill and cant go out.
