Opinion | Biden won the Electoral College. Now he must call for it to be abolished. By mannyfidel

and have been instrumental in securing his general election victory — deserve to be represented accurately, and under the electoral college system, many of their votes are rendered less powerful than their white counterparts. If Biden wants to combat the rising narrative that Democrats take their Black constituents for granted, fighting to increase the value of that demographic's vote should be a top priority.

Texas A&M political science Professor George Edwards notes that the electoral college was never meant to be the perfect system, but rather something that was slapped together out of fatigue. "They were tired, impatient, frustrated.

Because electoral votes are given based on population, and because of the way racial demographics are dispersed geographically,. A calculation done by Vox found that a white person's vote has 16% more power than a Black person's vote, 28% more power than a Latino's vote, and 58% more power than other people of color, including Asian Americans, Native Americans, and more., Wyoming has the country's smallest population with about 600,000 residents.

mannyfidel More stupid. Whose Business Insider?

mannyfidel Are you guys at BI on shrooms? No one won any electoral votes and they won’t decided for at least another month. There’s a little something called the constitution in place to prevent tyrants and dictators from seizing power and changing the structure to stay in power

mannyfidel Hmm. Abolish that which got him elected

mannyfidel The fastest way to overcome the undemocratic electoral college is to implement the Democratic Relocation Plan to incentivise Democrats to move to Republican states in sufficient numbers to carry close races in 2024.

mannyfidel People who are using the arguments of “CA and NY would decide the election” are dumb AF (or are banking on you being dumb af). The popular vote would force candidates to unify the country, to win people over. The people have the say, not the states they live in

mannyfidel That will be a step towards democracy and equality. The EC system is often biased and it's the root to some challenges faced today like voter suppression, divisiveness and biased leadership.

mannyfidel One citizen one vote. Popular vote is the way to go. None of this Elector BS

mannyfidel Along with Citizens United, abolishing the Electoral College is important business in the new term. Mark these words, PattyMurray and MariaCantwell.

mannyfidel At least you guys have a democracy. In the UK we have the Lords; an unelected second chamber stuffed full of hereditary (as in they pass the the title to their kids when they die) peers. The US equivalent would be an unelected Senate. And yes, it is as bad as it sounds.

mannyfidel

mannyfidel We could get rid of the Electoral College and make the government really fair by giving each state equal representation in the House.

mannyfidel

mannyfidel The Electoral College is only for the President. The President is not supposed to have enough power to be this important. The power is supposed to be in Congress. Why don't we stop trying to make the President a damn dictator?

mannyfidel There is zero reason to do so aside from giving 5 cities control of the nation and further telling the rest of us our votes dont matter. EC votes need to be by district instead of state block since that already takes population into account. , problem solved.

mannyfidel You should read the federalist papers before you put out dumb opinion pieces

mannyfidel I'm pretty sure the Constitution would send that call to voicemail.

mannyfidel A) that doesn’t sound like “working together” as it disenfranchises the states and voters who didn’t vote for him B) he’s not smarter than the founding fathers and neither are you

mannyfidel It needs to be expanded on a state level. Big cities are overpowering Rural areas. The city of Chicago should not get to decide how the entire state of Illinois votes. NYC should decide everything for the entire state of NY

mannyfidel Hahah.

mannyfidel Not happening.

mannyfidel Timcast

mannyfidel no that is the wrong way... it will divide the country more that it unifies..

mannyfidel What i don't understand about people pushing for the end of the electoral college is that California for an example gets 55 votes compared to Wyoming which only gets 3. You already have more say than they do. Unless you want to take all say from smaller states?

mannyfidel

mannyfidel This is asking for a break up of the United States, and end to our republic. When California gets to tell Kansas, etc how they do things a rebellion will happen. The EC insures ALL americans get a say in their leadership, not just California, NY, Florida and Texas.

mannyfidel

mannyfidel We the people or we the electoral college? Transition to rank-based voting as per AndrewYang

mannyfidel

mannyfidel So you want only California & New York to decide all elections going forward? Yeah, that’s going to work!

So Biden wins California by roughly 5M votes same spread of the national tally. It’s the United States of America not United States of California. Electoral College serves the purpose of not putting power solely with most populous states. EC not been in line w/pop vote 2x.

mannyfidel Another far left extremist group using a moderate name to fool the people.

mannyfidel The abolishment process is clearly outlined in the Constitution. The EC working as designed by forcing Each side to craft a better message to groups that don’t support them. Democrats struggle with the heartland while republicans struggle with urban areas.

mannyfidel

mannyfidel Lol yeah. Try doing it and see in 2024 someone comes against whom trump would seem like obama.

mannyfidel So CA and NY get to decide all elections?

mannyfidel Is this “in my opinion Biden won the EC?” Or did this actually happen yet?

mannyfidel Abolish the electoral then the populations of NYC, Houston, and LA will determine the outcome of every presidential election from here on, and the small town farmer’s from Iowa vote won’t matter. The electoral represent the people and give everyone’s vote a voice.

mannyfidel Banana Republic governed by Plutocrats here we come!

mannyfidel Allegedly Won ! You seem confused

mannyfidel Sure as soon as you get a amendment, we can change it. Until then keep whining about it.

mannyfidel I would love to hear the conservatives bitch about this. They may actually have to start taking reasonable politics stances instead of using fear as a platform

mannyfidel The EC is -archaic -undemocratic -unfair/unbalanced -gives more power to swing states -favors Republicans -the minority rule over the majority -gives more power to the uneducated -hinders progress -gave us TRUMP It should be abolished!

mannyfidel That doesn't seem good...so they can keep rigging elections every 4 yrs

mannyfidel “If Biden wants to push back against the narrative that the Democratic Party takes Black voters for granted, the least he could do is call to reform the way we vote for president.” That paragraph just shows how corrupt democrats are, you want something to change, bring up race 🤔

mannyfidel Abolishing it would be an act of war.

mannyfidel The left has absolutely no respect for our constitution or American citizens!

mannyfidel absolutely not! It’s the best way to have a fair vote among all 50 very diverse states.

mannyfidel

mannyfidel Um no

mannyfidel Thankfully it’s enshrined in the constitution so Biden’s no mandate term will not be able to do anything like this

mannyfidel Absolutely

mannyfidel Here comes the radical left

mannyfidel Hahahaah
