The BOM has since introduced an automatic system to produce accurate local weather briefings for balloon operatorsThe pilot was forced to make an emergency landing when wind conditions changed unexpectedly. also said the safety briefing for passengers prior to boarding "was not effective" and not all passengers understood the landing position required in the event of an emergency. In 2019, two of the passengers who sustained serious injuries in the incident commenced legal action, seeking damages against Go Wild Ballooning in the Supreme Court.

"Had the correct recording been uploaded by the BOM on the morning of 8 February 2018 , the flight carrying the passengers would not have launched and any injuries or damage sustained by the passengers arising from the incident would not have occurred," the writ said.

Hate to think this is nothing more than a cash grab.

That's ridiculous ultimately the pilot is responsible

They made an emergency landing after wind conditions changed “unexpectedly.” If they changed unexpectedly how can you expect BOM to accurately forecast them?

Next thing they'll be suing Mother Nature.

The weather bureau could get work in the political field.

This sets a dangerous precedent if successful. The BOM could be sued for any number of incidents, including water craft loss, drownings... the list goes on.

Ridiculous. Take responsibility for you own business
