You were building someone else’s business, contributing to someone else’s bottom line, buying someone else’s next Mercedes. You decided enough was enough, and that you could do it yourself, do it better, and make the money that you deserve all at the same time!
And you’re right, you can do it, you do it better, and your business is making money! But for some reason, your bank accounts aren’t reflecting that back to you. You still feel like you’re living paycheck to paycheck , and you feel like you don’t have as much to show for your hard work as you thought you would by now.
Taking owner’s draws occasionally is not the same thing as recreating a paycheck for yourself from your business. When your income is sporadic and you’re paying everyone and everything else before paying yourself, you’re much more likely to feel spread too thin, like you can’t take any time off to recharge, and like you’re ready to go back to work for someone else so that you can have that “steady paycheck” again.
The other thing I’ve learned from talking to hundreds of entrepreneurs is that there is nearly always cash in the business that should be earmarked for owner’s pay, it just hasn’t been taken yet! It sits in a business account, or is spread out among several different accounts, because there’s this fear that there will be a need for that cash in the business for something, sometime…but it’s not earmarked as an emergency fund, or business savings, or anything else that could be a legitimate need.
It is going to be next level.
