On Feb. 12, Canada lost one of its most beloved filmmakers, Ivan Reitman. How Ivan Reitman helped change the face of comedy

Arriving in Toronto as a refugee from Czechoslovakia when he was four years old, Reitman left behind a profound legacy when he died in his sleep at age 75.

In late 1974, around a year before this photo was taken, Reitman went to see his friend Gilda Radner in a touring National Lampoon revue Though Reitman was clearly smitten with this group, the feeling was not mutual, at least in the beginning. “They did not want this outsider telling them what to do,” he adds. “They didn’t know if he knew comedy. He looked like a square.”
