The prominent lawyer, philanthropist and businesswoman has returned to the board of Immutep, a biotech company, after a 4½-year break.

Lawyer, philanthropist and businesswoman Lucy Turnbull has taken on her first board appointment of an ASX-listed company in 4½ years, rejoining biotechnology company Immutep.It’s a coming home of sorts for Ms Turnbull, who was the chairman of Immutep between October 2010 to November 2017. In her first stint at the company she was influential in Immutep’s pivotal decision to switch its focus from being a single product cancer vaccine developer to a multi-product LAG-3 immunotherapy company.

“There are multiple opportunities for multiple cancer types undergoing early stage trials. [For example] Non-small cell lung cancer – a disease with low survival rate – and similarly second line head and neck cancer, which also has a low survival rate. It’s wonderful to think these therapies are Immutep’s discoveries.”

The company is expected to release more clinical trial data this year, and is cashed up thanks to raising more than $67 million in June last year.the sudden death of Immutep board member and OneVentures partner Grant Chamberlain in late January. “I’d also made sure a few months before I left the board that I recruited current members Dr Russell Howard and Peter Meyers.”Ms Turnbull has also served on the boards of NSW Cancer Institute and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.
