The African National Congress President Cyril Ramaphosa will be in Mpumalanga today in a bid to save the party from collapse, due to deep divisions ahead of its anticipated provincial elective conference. ANC

Last week, the ANC National Working Committee took a decision tohis visit to the ANC in the Eastern Cape

last week. It had its four-year term expired, as it was elected in 2015, where David Mabuza was elected as the provincial chairperson before ascending to the national office as the Deputy President of the ANC in December 2017. Mpumalanga is scheduled to hold its conference next weekend in eMalahleni but reports suggest that it might not take place due to disputes lodged by some regions and branches of the ANC in the province.

The race is on for the leadership of the ANC in Mpumalanga. Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane and Lucky Ndinisa are seemingly the ones set to compete for the Provincial Chairperson position. Most branches and regions have had their conferences, with the provincial one being at the core in Mpumalanga. Ramaphosa’s visit is seen as a way to make sure there is a smooth transition of leadership in the province.
