Finance Minister Simon Birmingham says any proposed laws to ban transgender women from playing women’s sports should be scrutinised by the Parliament, cautioning the debate raised “sensitive issues” after the Prime Minister backed a campaign to legislate on the matter.“more to say” on the matter as he praised Liberal senator Claire Chandler and Liberal candidate for the Sydney seat of Warringah, Katherine Deves, for their advocacy on the topic and said he shared their views.

“What have is that there are some sporting bodies or women’s sporting bodies who are keen to ensure the safety or integrity of their competitions that should be respected as a genuine consideration on their part,” Birmingham said. “It’s equally important to ensure that the rights of individuals and the rights of individuals of different gender identities are also respected and considered.”

Campaigning in NSW on Monday, Morrison declined to say whether he would legislate to ban trans women from female sports if the Coalition retained government.in February that would make it easier for sporting organisations to exclude transgender women from competing in female sports.

LisaVisentin There needs to be reasoned, scientifically-supported discussions on this topic. Banning it outright without a proper, comprehensive discussion and investigation from all stakeholders is egregious. Also, transphobic people do not get a seat at the table.

LisaVisentin Birmo disagreeing with Dear Leader. Off to the salt mines with him.

LisaVisentin Indeed it’s a very ‘sensitive’ issue Birmo ! Male bodies irrespective of how they identify their ‘gender identity’ have no place in Women’s and Girl sports nor in their public changing rooms, bathrooms and toilets. Women matter Simon. Want their vote ?

LisaVisentin Birmingham just another corrupt Liberal LNPCorruptionParty

LisaVisentin The respective sporting bodies have no backbone.

LisaVisentin No and no and no! 2 plus 2 do not equal 5 in any circumstance. If 50 million people say a foolish thing it is still a foolish thing. Bandwagon and groupthink are all too common.

LisaVisentin It's more than a 'sensitive issue'. The way Scott Morrison is supporting this woman is unabashed bigotry! If a Labor politician acted the way he has, he'd be dragged over the coals *both* ways before breakfast!

LisaVisentin I am sensing more than a little bit of positioning for a post election leadership role if Scott loses. Birmingham is actually quite appealing in his calm and steady approach

LisaVisentin 'Sensitive issue?' Why hasn't the biased media gone after Morrison for starting a culture war on Day 1 to sledge and dehumanize trans people like it did on Albo? What sports are trans males suppose to play in? Male or female sports? auspol

LisaVisentin Can we do something on election policy ? Why with the culture war and gaffe faff?
