The Pokémon Company responds to ex-Nintendo host Nuzlocke claim

"We thought that this would be a fun idea for a Nintendo Minute video, so we pitched it to The Pokémon Company," Ellis began, before punching his own fist, suggesting the idea did not go down well. Yang admitted the pair thought Nintendo was"gonna fire us" for making the suggestion.

Ellis continued, claiming The Pokémon Company refused on the basis it was considered"to be on the same level as using a hacked game". The pair then conveyed their confusion and frustration to the response, as Nuzlocke runs don't involve any hacking.before, it's a Pokémon playthrough with specific player-imposed rules. The two basic rules are:In each area you can only catch the first wild Pokémon that you encounter.

Some people choose to play with other constraints on top of the ones listed above, but it's open to each individual player as to what rules they follow. As Ellis says, it's just a"style" of playing a game. Yang made a further claim regarding people who were a part of the Nintendo Creators Program."There were a lot creators that played a Nuzlocke-style of Pokémon that got erased from their Creator Program," Yang said, and the pair also claimed the bad reactions would put creators off from suggesting ideas for fear of their reputation with The Pokémon Company.

The Pokémon Company has responded to the remarks made by Ellis and Yang in a statement issued to Eurogamer, stating:"The Pokémon Company International does not have any issues with fans or creators playing the video games with Nuzlocke rules".We want to make Eurogamer better, and that means better for our readers - not for algorithms.

Gamefreak needs to add this to the game. Post game unlock with a built in randomiser. Shouldn’t be hard to integrate at all

I thought the issue was not being allowed for a nuzlocke to be shown on official Nintendo channel and not people playing the nuzlocke. The statement mentions that they have no issue people playing. If that’s the case, why didn’t they let them do a run?

A one sentence statement?

Still no source. I haven’t seen TPC on any platform make this statement.

Now I’m confused. I feel like all of this was miscommunication and can be fixed but simply not allowing anyone who can buy a microphone to use it

I didn't want to take part at this initially, but this entire story is weird. When The Pokemon Company or Nintendo have an issue with something being made by the fan community they don't keep it secret, they immediately and openly shut it down. (1/3)

Pokemon is probably afraid to acknowledge Nuzlocke as it takes their IP and gives a spin on it. That calls into question who has the authority who can use the brand (although very weakly). and it doesn't fit the 'Pokemon are your friends for life and battles are safe' branding.

InfernoOmni

speaking over and denying experiences of ex-employees and people who were part of your creator's program isn't a great look but ok

friendly reminder that 1: company PR responses don’t mean anything, at best this could be considered miscommunication or a change of heart on TPCi’s side 2: there’s still the issue that K&K mentioned of people there not being able to present new ideas for fear of being fired

Patterrz being moved to a secure location after Twitter gets really mad over nothing.

Now the question is why would Kit and Krista say that if TPC says it's not a bad thing?

The fact that people are saying tpci is lying about this as well even though they literally reported to Eurogamer about it and was clearly a miscommunication shows that this fandom is still insufferable, hate it here 💀

Now people are crying this is just PR. Why would this be just PR? What in the world do you think TPCI has to gain or lose from this? You literally just want another reason to hate them. At least hate them for valid reasons, like making ugly games.

Hallo Lennyficate ,nachtrag fürs Video? :D 'DaS jA SchLeCht GeaLtErt ' 😝😄

This is just a basic empty PR statement, because anti-nuzlocke looks dumb. All this is saying is they don't have a problem with nuzlockes which could easily mean they don't have a problem with it now. This doesn't dispute what their stance was at the time or the interaction.

JoeMerrick Does this make The Pokemon Company shills for The Pokemon Company?

JoeMerrick I think after we beat the game they should add a challenge mode where we can set many different new rules so nuzlocke becomes official 😁

dry PR statement from a company != truth. PR exists solely to protect companies from public backlash, there is no universe where they would say anything other than this statement, regardless of its truth. This isn't news

Here's some other conclusions that don't involve cynically calling people manipulative liars to feel good about yourself: - Mistranslation/misinterpretation - Multiple reps with different opinions - Mistaken for randomizers/hacks - Changed/vague rules

JoeMerrick Pokémon needs Nuzlocks. Stupid game needs a harder mode.

JoeMerrick Why do you keep pushing this? Of course they’re going to say what they want to say. That’s what PR does. Just drop it already

JoeMerrick Joe Merrick deserves an apology from everyone who called him a shill for telling the truth (He’ll never get one, people just wanna be angry.)

JoeMerrick Need all the people upset at Joe for calling liars liars to shut up forever now tbh.

JoeMerrick Massive damage control lol KitandKrysta

Whilst the statement is nice, the Eurogamer editor googling 2 nuzlocke rules and claiming they're the base of everything is pretty bad man

Ok.

so they basically lied to stir up drama they should be ashamed of themselves
