When you pay no tax and all your friends are politicians.

Bullshit. Take it out of their owners and shareholders pockets. Not ours.

Amazing after all the money they make that they need tax payers to clean up their mess

How about emergency arrests instead of emergency funds?

Don't worry, i'm sure the execs got their bonuses while they trashed the place

So there's $537,000,000 held to rehabilitate the mine & the estimate is that it could cost $2,200,000,000 for the rehabilitation? Sounds very much like corporatised profits/socialised losses *yet again*.

Legislation with prison sentences and large personal and corporate fine penalties, should be in place for mining companies to fund their own clean up after cessation of mining. It is not the taxpayer's job to subsidize business costs, and cleanup is a business cost.
