In his main conference address, Tony Danker is expected to call for more economic migration in parts of the UK as a way to address labour shortages.

The Government has no economic growth plan, the boss of the UK’s biggest business lobby group said., said the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, had prioritised stability but warned that without improved growth, the UK could not afford improved public services.Mr Danker was speaking ahead of the CBI’s annual conference, which has called for a fresh focus on growth.had been “all about fighting inflation and getting the government budget in some decent shape and that does need to be done”.

“I’m going to give Jeremy Hunt, who I thought did a good job with a bad hand, a bit of slack. I like to think this was part one of a two-part Autumn Statement. Part one was all about stability, fighting inflation and getting the government budget in some shape.” But he stressed “there was really nothing there that tells us the economy is going to avoid another decade of“Jeremy Hunt did some things which will be very welcome, but he also made businesses, and everybody, pay more taxes and so the fear is there just isn’t enough there to turn round and say: ‘We can grow again’,” he said. “So, I don’t think he did enough, I think he is going to have to come back with more,” he added.

He will tell the CBI’s two-day annual conference in Birmingham: “Let’s have economic migration in areas where we aren’t going to get the people and skills at home any time soon. In return, let’s make those visas fixed-term.”
