South Africa's ecosystems are increasingly under threat because of habitat loss and invasive alien species, according to a new list issued by Forestry, Fisheries and Environment Minister Barbara Creecy.
Creecy published the Revised National List of Ecosystems that are threatened and in need of protection in late November. The list was developed between 2016 and 2020. It is based on available information about the pressures on and conditions of these land-based ecosystems. An ecosystem comprises of living things interacting with each other and with non-living things in a specific area.
