The city should not spend our hard-earned tax dollars bailing out downtown real estate speculators, our columnist writes.

Feb 16, 2023

A key part of Mayor London Breed’s response to this crisis is the plan she proposed in her State of the City address, “A Roadmap For Downtown.” The sentiment is well-meaning, but the approach is backward. That’s why neighborhood leaders, small business owners and community advocates are organizing to build back San Francisco from the bottom up — not the top down. Without raising any taxes, we have a plan to re-invest in neighborhood places, affordable housing, legacy businesses and the neighborhood-based experiences that will keep our economy strong by keeping our city a special place to work, visit and live.
