Image: Dinilohlanga MekutoThe funeral motorcade of South African hip hop artist, Kiernan Forbes, commonly known as AKA has arrived at the Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg.

AKA was shot and killed in Durban last weekend alongside his long-time friend and manager, Tebello “Tibs” Motsoane in an alleged hit. Motoane’s funeral is also underway in the east of Johannesburg. Led by Gauteng traffic police motorbikes, AKA’s funeral motorcade was ushered to his final resting place. A convoy of black BMW X5’s drove into the cemetery ground, followed by a designer trailer carrying AKA’s casket.

Somizi Mhlongo is among many of the celebrities in attendance. Forbes will be buried alongside other celebrities such as Hugh Masekela and Joe Mafela.Photo Gallery | AKA Memorial mini-concert:AKA’s memorial service was hosted on Friday at the Sandton Convention Centre. The rapper was hailed for recognising talent and nurturing it, giving artists like Yanga Chief – who started out as a videographer – a voice and identity.
