An apartment advertised as being in “one of Canberra’s most sought-after suburbs” has caught the interest of people — not only for its bargain price but a shocking disclaimer about the actual condition of the building it is situated in.

The two-bedroom apartment in the Oakmont Ridge complex in the inner southern suburb of Narrabundah offered 77 square metres of living space with sweeping balcony views. It is described as being near “some of Canberra’s best school zones” and “close to several town centres”.The starting price for the Leahy Close property is $250,000, which the agent listed on the property said was a bargain in the current housing market. The latest Domain quarterly report showed the average price for a unit in the country’s capital was $567,888.

Another user said they inspected the building when it was advertised for sale in 2022 and saw major areas of concern in the building’s carpark area. “Huge cracks throughout most of the columns and pillars. 4x large heavy-duty jacks at every single support column, and multiple in several other spots around the place,” they wrote on Reddit.Despite the issues, the advertisement said the apartment was being leased out for $480 per week.An apartment building in Canberra is being rented out for over $400 despite its structural issues.
