Cape Breton singer-songwriter Buddy MacDonald's song “Getting Dark Again" is the first song to be inducted into the Cape Breton Music Industry Hall of Fame, Thursday at Centre 200. CONTRIBUTEDSYDNEY, N.S. — Every time he gets a call asking permission to use his song “Getting Dark Again” for a performance, Buddy MacDonald says he would often respond, “I think you dialled the wrong number.

The song joins other inductees The Men of the Deeps, Matt Minglewood and the late Rita MacNeil, all of whom will be honoured in a gala event on Thursday, 7 p.m., at Centre 200. “The year after I wrote it, the Summertime Revue had their production and it was part of a medley of tunes and songs,” MacDonald said. “And I think the person to sing it was none other than Gordie Sampson. So I tell everybody that I have a Grammy winner that covers it."

So when I got a call from them asking permission to use the song, again I thought they had the wrong number,” MacDonald recalled with a laugh. “Because it wasn’t exactly a 12-year-old’s kind of song.
