The Auditor-General of South Africa has welcomed the judgment as an endorsement of her office's independence, but the applicant may still pursue access to the reports. | News24_Business

Despite the arguably significant public interest, the High Court has ruled that the Auditor-General South Africa is not obliged to release management reports which would give the public greater insight into decay and mismanagement within SA municipalities.

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria's ruling comes after Sakeliga – a non-profit organisation – approached the court for an order to have the Auditor-General release management reports issued in relation to 154 municipalities across SA, covering the financial years spanning 2015 to 2021.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
