A charity in Co Derry has received a report of a daylight dog snatch witnessed by owner

Pet owners are being warned to stay extra vigilant right now for dog thefts by criminals planning to force breed females for their vile Christmas puppy trade.

"And they'll lift any dog, male or female regardless of breed and they don't care of the dogs are too young either. The older dogs they may try to breed but they normally just dump them. "It takes very little effort to lift a straying or lost dog and put it in a van. The crime is done and dusted in minutes and the dog and the thief are long gone in not time at all."

A charity spokesperson said: "We received a report of a dog being taken whilst out on a walk by his owner.
