Netflix is actually the fifth-highest canceller.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A new study reveals which streaming platform cancels the most shows, and it wasn't Netflix. In the years since one-time-DVD-rental company Netflix launched its streaming service in 2007, other platforms have emerged and created tough competition among each other.

Variety reveals which streaming platform cancels the most shows. According to a recent study, that honor goes to Max, the streaming platform co-owned by Warner Bros. and HBO. Max reportedly cancelled 26.9% of shows, comparatively higher than the combined cancellation rate of 12.2% from all the major streamers.

Understanding Max's High Cancellation Rate Though Max came out far on top, it is typically Netflix that gets the worst reputation for cancelling shows. This notoriety likely stems from the fact that Netflix has been producing original streaming content since before other major platforms, such as Disney+, have even existed. Therefore, Netflix has a longer history of cancelling shows, and with the breadth of content it contains, it has a higher likelihood of upsetting a fan base.

Max’s relatively massive cancellation rate is shocking at first, but it is explicable by some recent factors, including its recent merger. When Warner Bros. and HBO combined, some of Max’s former content was nixed from the platform for cost-cutting measures. For example, Westword season 5 was abruptly cancelled and then removed from the platform as a tax write-off, and this sparked confusion and disapproval from subscribers.
