A recent agreement is set to empower black citrus producers in the Eastern Cape to tap into international markets.

An agreement worth R1.2m between the Citrus Growers Association-Grower Development Company and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation has been signed, aimed at empowering black citrus producers in the Eastern Cape.

Initially, the agreement will benefit 10 out of 37 black citrus producers in the Eastern Cape. It will focus on regions like Patensie,Akho Skenjana, ECDC senior manager for manufacturing and agroprocessing, said of the agreement: “The programme will support black citrus producers with compliance with Global Good Agricultural Practices .”“An additional requirement is compliance with Sustainable Initiative of South Africa’s ethical trade requirements.
