Commentary: In the escalating trade war between the U.S. and China, who pays?

In a word, my family does. We are leading importers of Christmas decorations and have been in business since 1946.'s imposition of a 10% tariff last September on many categories of products we offer has had the effect of greatly slowing down sales.on a wide array of goods will have a much greater impact on businesses than the president may realize.

President Donald Trump meets business leaders at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China, in November, 2017.We set our prices in December for the following year, as we sell our products to customers starting in January, with delivery to them from May through October.Eighty-five percent of our clients have already placed their orders. We, in turn, place orders with our suppliers from December through May. Shipments from overseas start in May.

China

Another con job by the Flim Flam man DJT 🤥💩‼️

good don't buy any item coming from china

That's the saddest side of the trade war story.

Tariffs are better than income tax. Lets drop the income tax and go back to funding the government with tariffs.

Just like using credit cards, paying NOW is the most inexpensive way otherwise you will end up paying way more at a later time - interest and your freedom under communist 5G rule.

The Trump administration has imposed $72 billion worth of new taxes on Americans by levying tariffs on thousands of products: analysis

Buy American products! Boom no trade war!!!

Tariffs are a tax on Americans. Media needs to start calling it that. Trump tax on Americans

Raising taxes on Americans is the left wing way to deal with everything

CNBC rooting for China. Trump Derangement Syndrome.

You'll live

The American people have to pay because our president can't make a deal

Just quit relying on Chinese built crap.

For god sake, tariffs are paid when the products are getting in the country, businesses pay it and add a higher price for the product. Good for american businesses because people will rather buy american products there since Chinese ones wont be cheaper

Americans have grown too reliant on cheap disposable goods that hurt the environment, and China has been more than happy to fuel that. This family's business runs on importing cheap Christmas decorations from China. Maybe Americans should start making their own decorations.

Costs of doing business?

And guess what happens to all the other imports. Most importers will ask for a reduction with a falling Yuan so either the importer is making out or consuners got a price cut.

We all pay for the future of our country. But calm the hell down wimps. Our grandparents rationed fuel and food during WWII. 🙄

I'm fine paying more for American made products. It is now or never when it comes to the trade imbalance with China because the Republicans and Democrats never did a thing about it in the past except watch our jobs disappear. Time to play fair!

Buy American! Not from slave labor in a totalitarian country!

Has this importer heard of foreign exchange? The Yuan has devalued 10% since last year. He may want to call his Chinese factories who are making out.

Long term let’s move away from doing business with communist China

Political BS.
