In an exclusive interview with SABC News, Dr Irvin Khoza reflected on Meyiwa's life and legacy.

Orlando Pirates and Premier Soccer League Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza has spoken out for the first time since the murder of soccer star Senzo Meyiwa, paying tribute to the former club and Bafana Bafana Captain.Five men are currently on trial for his 2014 murder.

In an exclusive interview with SABC News senior reporter Chriselda Lewis, Khoza reflected on Meyiwa’s last moments, his legacy and his rise to stardom. “That is why I said to the dad ‘I want to apologise but am also grateful that I took your boy as an unknown into my development and I am bringing him back as a national hero, as the captain of Bafana Bafana and keeper of Orlando Pirates Football Club; but unfortunately, his body is lifeless, I am sorry’.”Khoza also told SABC News that he is willing to take the stand in the trial – if he is called.

“If I am called, I will appear and try to understand. Because someone told me about this and then I said okay if I am called I will appear and that’s why I am saying I don’t know the context. ….. I don’t want to go into the context … and that’s why I said I will go to court and I have not said anything. The day he passed on there was one press conference and nothing after that. This thing came out later, long after 2014 and whatever, recently, so I must go to court and answer.
