A new survey shows that one out of four Texans believe their current electricity plan is a gimmick.

It was sponsored by Utilities Now, a Fort Worth-based broker offering free assistance on finding the right plan.A few things that jump out: Only 15% of Texans changed plans last year.

Three out of four Texans surveyed by EnergyBot, also an energy broker, are influenced by TV commercials and believe the night and weekend plans will save them money.Warren criticized multi-tiered plans, complex rate structures and time-of-use pricing for causing confusion. This is where I share the promised tips by CEO Young.“One of the most misleading rate plans advertises a very low rate by using bill credits to artificially present a rate that few customers will actually achieve,” he says.

“In many cases, these plans end up costing customers significantly more because the actual rate is much higher than the advertised rate,” he says. “If you don’t hit the bullseye, you don’t get the credit. These plans are very deceptive.”
