Malaysian authorities have reported 5,791 investment scams between January and November 2023, resulting in an estimated loss of RM745 million. Telegram emerges as the primary platform used by fraudsters, accounting for 31.6% of reported cases, followed by Facebook and WhatsApp. Authorities warn the public about the prevalence of fraudulent content on these platforms and advise seeking information from reputable sources like Bank Negara and the Securities Commission.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sebanyak 5,791 kes penipuan pelaburan melibatkan nilai kerugian kira-kira RM745 juta dicatatkan sepanjang Januari hingga November tahun ini.

“Aplikasi Telegram direkodkan menjadi pilihan utama sindiket dengan 1,832 kes atau bersamaan 31.6 peratus daripada jumlah keseluruhan kes manakala Facebook dan WhatsApp masing-masing merekodkan 1,436 dan 1,378 kes. Menurut Ramli, wanita tersebut mendakwa terlihat iklan skim pelaburan berkenaan melalui laman Instagram dan kemudiannya telah menghubungi nombor telefon yang tertera dan dimasukkan ke dalam kumpulan di aplikasi WhatsApp.

Justeru, tambah Ramli, mangsa membuat laporan polis pada 12 Disember lalu dan kes disiasat di bawah Seksyen 420 Kanun Keseksaan.
