INDIANAPOLIS — Firefighters are investigating after the Capitol City Fence Company caughtAccording to the Indianapolis Fire Department, just before 10 a.m. on Jan. 12, firefighters responded to the Capitol City Fence Company at 920 E. Ohio St., near Pine Street and Interstate 70.
Firefighters arrived almost immediately and found no visible fire on the outside of the building, but once they accessed the building's interior, they discovered a heavy fire was already burning inside. IFD said it took over two hours to contain the fire. About 50% of the building's roof collapsed, and multiple rounds of ammunition inside began going off as firefighters fought the blaze.
Firefighters reportedly had difficulty accessing necessary water supply due to problems with a nearby hydrant's water pressure. Once that issue was fixed, IFD was able to continue their attack. Indianapolis firefighters responded to a fire at the Capitol City Fence Company on Jan. 12, 2025.The building has been reportedly owned by John Roop since 1995. Roop told IFD that the building was constructed in 1919 as a distribution center for the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company.
