Firms and bodies are casting doubt on health advice for expecting women to abstain from drinking

Alcohol firms and bodies they fund are encouraging women to drink in pregnancy – putting their unborn child in danger – by publishing false and misleading information about the risks involved, new research claims.

Oh come on people. Stop blaming the mothers. If someone tells them is ok, they won’t think it’s a problem to have a toast every now and then. It doesn’t just mean alcoholic women. And what a lot of people think is common sense is not. They are being told is not that bad

I was going to bash The Guardian for this title, but after reading it through, I have to agree: If companies are making studies up to say alcohol during pregnancy is OK, then those are to be prosecuted. Even though women still have the bulk of responsibility in the matter.

Let's make a study in which we can find someone else to blame.

Um drs say it is safe and even good to drink a little during pregnancy.

🤦🏻‍♀️ it save their lives.

I'm fed up with people restricting everyone else's rights and freedoms because a minority of people are stupid and irresponsible.

I think people haven’t read the article or are missing the point completely! The alcohol industry is purposely funding studies to say it’s safe to drink in pregnancy. Therefore attempting to change advice that is current and accurate which says otherwise.

Or maybe it’s the pregnant women who put themselves at risk

I'm pretty sure the women consuming the alcohol are to blame.

No, they put themselves at risk by drinking!!

Also, your 'Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs' hyperlink directs the reader to the journal's homepage, not to the actual study in question. If you can correct this, please do so.

Oh man I bet this gets you called sexist eventually.

'more than 40% of women in the UK continue to drink during pregnancy' - Where did you get that figure from? Are they talking about having a drink during the first few days when one doesn't know that they're pregnant or is this including the period in which pregnancy is known?

So not the responsibility of the morons that are drinking whilst carrying a baby.....

Its ur own choice if you drink alcohol, smoke, or take drugs during pregnancy...

No. Women themselves put pregnant women at risk. No one forces them to drink when pregnant. This blame game needs to stop. People need to own their own behaviour.

I think women are well aware. It's not like it used to be mind you my mother drank a small can of mackesons stout everyday when pregnant with me and I'm a 6ft5 ex rugby player.

Irresponsible pregnant women put irresponsible pregnant women at risk you mean.

Cars put pedestrians at risk!

“Wait, seriously?” retorts ABSOLUTELY NO ONE
