The NSW racing regulator is inquiring into the ownership of horses held in the name of Serene Bloodstock, a company operated by the family of former mining billionaire Nathan Tinkler. The stewards' investigation is looking into possible breaches of the racing rules. So far no findings have been made or charges laid under the rules.
A Racing NSW spokesman declined to provide further details about Mr van Gestel's inquiries, but industry sources who did not want to be named noted there was no current embargo on Mr Tinkler taking part in the racing industry under his own name and said that he had not been warned off. Mr Tinkler has since emerged from bankruptcy but he remains banned from running businesses after being disqualified by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in May 2017 for his involvement in managing 11 companies that went into liquidation.
