And don't be surprised if what you want changes over time, like it did for me.It's OK to let your foot off the gas on making progress towards your goals in the early years of parenthood. Yes, a financial planner just told you it's okay to slow down on things likeand college for a few years.

It may not feel worth it, but if continuing to work provides some needed income for the family, enables you to continue growing in your career and doing work that you love, maintain your skill set, and get employee benefits that your family needs, it could be a great decision. But then this magical thing happened — my youngest entered elementary school and suddenly I had 30 hours per week of free childcare.
