San Jose Del Monte City lone district Rep. Rida Robes on Sunday suggested that Metro Manila workers who reside outside the metropolis or the National Capital Region be housed in hotels, motels, inns, apartelles, during the month-long quarantine.
“The remaining 50 percent will be paid equally by the government and their employers. That way, we lessen the spread of the virus to outside Merro Manila,” the Bulacan lawmaker explained. “We should find ways of easing the daily burdens of our citizens. May community quarantine nga tayo sa Metro Manila hanggang April 14 eh, so dapat dun ang focus ng mga tao, kung papaanong mapipigilan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19 sa mga komunidad nila, hindi ang problema sa pagbabayad ng taxes,” he lamented.
House Deputy Minority leader and Bayan Muna Party-List Rep. Carlos Zarate also called for economic relief for workers and families affected by the Palace-imposed community quarantine of NCR. “The additional P1,000 pension increase for Social Security System [pensioners] should now be given because the elderly are the most susceptible to COVID-19. The social pension should also immediately be increased by at least P500,” he added.
